MAJOR SKINK Egernia frerei Gunther, 1897
Colour of this 45 cm lizard ranges from nearly black, through various shades of brown to a light fawn colour. It is found in far north east NSW, along the east coast of Queensland, and Arnhem land N.T.. It is usually found in thick forest and rainforest habitats.
Active during the day, this shy lizard is usually seen in clearings adjacent to its' forest habitat. Feeds on insects, smaller reptiles and various plants and gives birth to live young.
